Pastor Mike grew up in Iowa and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 7. In the winter of 2023, God called Mike to Alaska Baptist Church to serve as Senior Pastor. He is passionate about preaching and teaching God’s Word, and helping people grow and change into the image of Christ. Pastor Mike is a graduate of Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA and has a M.Min degree from Bible Baptist Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. He is also a certified Biblical counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). He enjoys playing golf, cycling, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and Michigan Wolverines, and he is a coffee enthusiast. Mike and his wife, Kristen, married in 1999 and they have been blessed with two children.
Mike was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. After serving in various ministries at different churches, he started to attend Alaska Baptist in 2008. Since that time, Mike has faithfully served the Lord in our children’s ministry, youth ministry, young adult ministry, and other various ministries. In 2024 we licensed Mike as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ and he has had the privilege of serving the Lord as out part-time Director of Student Ministries. He sold his business of 17 years in order to pursue his calling in full-time pastoral ministry. He is currently enrolled at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary pursuing a Master’s of Divinity degree. He is married to his wife, Amy, and they have 5 kids.
Jerry began attending Alaska Baptist Church in 2006 and has been faithfully serving the Lord in our choir and Praise Team since then. He began as our Director of Music Ministry in 2020. After graduating from Caledonia High School, Jerry attended Grand Rapids Junior College and Michigan State University. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors degree in Music Education. He works at the Autocam Corporation in Shipping and Production Control.
Cara has been attending Alaska Baptist Church since 1991. She has served in various ministry roles throughout her time here. She is a retired preschool teacher and is currently the children’s ministry director. She and her husband, of 31 years, Jason have 7 children and 2 grandsons. She is passionate about teaching children the Word of God.
Amy joined the church office in August 2025. She grew up in Michigan and she’s also lived in Florida and Tennessee. Amy graduated with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Pensacola Christian College in graphic design and advertising. She and her husband married in 2011 and have two daughters, Lilly and Abby. Amy enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, and photography.
